The Care Leavers Council is a group of young people who have all experienced being in care. They currently have 9 members. The aim of the group is to improve the services care leavers receive from Leeds City Council, and to help make the difficult transition from care to adulthood a better experience for all young people. The group also wish to make a difference to the lives of all young people experiencing care.

Any young person between 16 and 25 who have left the care of Leeds, or will leave care soon, and young care leavers from other local authorities who now live in Leeds can attend the sessions.

The group meets every two weeks on a Wednesday, from 4.30 – 7pm and the young people get £10 per month for their hard work.

The Care Leavers Council is currently working on planning 1 day event aimed at Care Leavers in the City to give them information on their rights and entitlements when leaving care as well other guidance about the life skills that they will need when they live independently.
