Anne Marie Waters not welcome in Pontefract!
Counterprotest organised by Wakefield Stand Up to Racism – meet Saturday 18 November – meet 1pm Pontefract Town Hall
Anne Marie Waters, recent runner up in the 2017 UKIP leadership contest and desperately trying to remain relevant, is coming to Pontefract to launch her new racist party ‘For Britain’.
A candidate so vile former leader Paul Nuttall has said that her views make him “uncomfortable”, Waters launched the UK arm of the racist PEGIDA organisation in 2016 with Tommy Robinson (formerly of the EDL). She won 21.3 per cent of the vote in the 2017 Ukip leadership election and left after she and her supporters were branded “Nazis and racists” by the likes of Nigel Farage and Henry Bolton, the party’s new leader!!
She has called Islam “evil” and her leadership manifesto claims that the religion has turned Britain into a “fearful and censorious society”. Waters wants the banning of the burqa, the closure of all sharia councils and a temporary freeze on all immigration with the same lack of regard for the human and legal implications as Trump’s travel ban.
Wakefield Stand Up to Racism will be protesting to show that this particularly vile strand of intolerance has no place in our society; not in Wakefield and the 5 towns, not in Yorkshire and not in the UK. As Waters is aware she is a fringe figure with limited appeal and disgusting policies, they are trying everything they can to avoid public pushback by hiding their venue. As a result we plan to meet at the Town Hall to show that Pontefract is ours; a welcoming city.
