In this session, Chris from Yorkshire St. Pauli will discuss how football fans are actively challenging the forms of discrimination that underpin dominant discourses through playing, watching and talking about football.

Football has a history of been scorned and scoffed at by the left, with activists and academics alike reverting to the classic “football is the ‘new’ opiate of the masses” rhetoric.

Come and hear about FC St. Pauli and Yorkshire St. Pauli, and how their fans and members have mobilised to create positive community based action, particularly for refugees and people seeking asylum.

In the style of how YSP FC play; this will be a laid-back and relaxed presentation/workshop which will hopefully spark discussions as we go along.

DISCLAIMER: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LIKE FOOTBALL TO COME TO THIS. IN SOME WAYS, NOT LIKING FOOTBALL MAKES THIS MORE INTERESTING.
