Carbon Conversations Leeds

Carbon Conversations Groups offer a supportive group experience that helps people halve their personal carbon footprint. They deal with the difficulties of change by connecting to values, emotions and identity. The groups are based on a psychological understanding of how people change. Most participants reduce their CO2 emissions by 1 tonne immediately and make plans for long-term reductions, often halving their carbon footprints.

Cornerstone Housing Co-operative

Sometimes a commune, sometimes an intentional community and sometimes just housemates, eating together and running the houses together. Our two big old houses with big gardens in Chapeltown keep us very busy. Space for 15 members, plus sometimes short and long-term visitors. Large cellars host bikes, workshops, brewing, a garden nursery and Footprint Workers Co-op (printers). We want our members to be socially active, and we're often involved in local and national projects of all kinds with an emphasis on consensus and non-hierarchy. Hollybush Conservation Centre

We are an environmental volunteering centre in Kirkstall, Leeds. The site used to be a rhubarb farm, now we have a community café and garden, a woodwork shop, barn and classroom. We provide a wide range of volunteering opportunities for everyone, and we specialise in working with adults who need a bit of extra help to get their lives back on track.

Inkwell is a Leeds Mind Project, a charity supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties.


Journey to Justice

We are an alliance of artists, educators, students, youth groups, communities, human rights and faith organisations, filmmakers, musicians, historians, curators, trade unionists and politicians. We aim to inspire people to become active in social justice movements through learning from human rights movements. Our first project is a multi-media travelling exhibition programme focused on the US civil rights movement, its links to the UK and how it transcends time, place and issue with an emphasis on stories of local people challenging injustice.

Leeds Welfare Fightback

We campaign for a decent system of social security for all, and against benefit cuts, sanctions, attacks on benefits rights of those with long-term illness or disability; mandatory "treatments" and other inappropriate "work related activities", including substitution of paid jobs with unpaid labour of claimants; low pay and insecure work conditions; attacks on social housing; age discrimination and discrimination based on nationality in the welfare system. We also demand recognition and support for the vital unwaged work done by carers and parents.

"You Forgot the Mince" is a piece of new writing that is currently in a research and development phase. The long term aims for the play is that it will tour theatres and also be performed in HMP Leeds followed by eight weeks worth of drama based workshops with the prisoners. The aim of the project is to instigate change within peoples lives and to get people thinking/talking about domestic abuse and its causes to help stop it at its root.
